 What Is The Westfield XTR2?
Produced since 2002, the Westfield XTR2 is a new generation of minimalist sports cars to bring ultimate high performance track driving to all enthusiasts, not just those with big bank balances. The chassis design, layout and accessibility of all the components and the removable bodywork make essential maintenance part of the fun. You would expect the XTR2 to be exceptional value and you won't be disappointed. You may be surprised at the level of envy that the truly shattering performance and stunning styling might create - if they can catch you to tell you.
With an F1 soundtrack behind your head, driving the Westfield XTR2 is a unique and pleasurable experience. With the low cost of maintenance, exceedingly high fun factor and ease of ownership, the Westfield XTR2 is "quite simply the best track day toy money can buy."
Is The XTR2 Road Legal In The United States Or Canada?
Westfield Sportscars designed the XTR2 to not only compete on the racetrack, but to allow owners to actually 'arrive & drive' in the same car. To that end, Westfield has incorporated all the necessary safety and signaling features required for a road-going vehicle in the U.K. The Westfield XTR2 is SVA compliant.
However, road laws in the U.S. vary from state to state so a simple yes or no answer is not possible. In some states, a requirement for a full DOT-approved windshield and windshield wipers might prohibit the XTR2 from being driven on the road without additional modifications. Manik Technologies will assist in every way to get its customers cars on the road.
Each Westfield XTR2 component kit is supplied with a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin [MSO] which defines the vehicle. Since each state and country has different registration procedures, it is the owner's responsibility to ensure that their completed vehicle is registered in accordance with applicable law.
Canadian law on the other hand, is rather specific in terms of certain windshield and bumper requirements. At this time, the Canadian MOT will not register the XTR2 for road use. However, the XTR2 can be driven on any number of racetracks throughout Canada to great effect.

How Complex Is The XTR2 Build? What Tools Will I Need? How Long Will The XTR2 Take To Build? Are There Any Steps In The XTR2 Build That Are Particularly Difficult?
This will certainly depend on your level of skill, but as a general rule, the Westfield XTR2 has been designed as a component kit that can be assembled simply and quickly, with a minimum of complications and a maximum amount of fun.
Westfield estimates that construction of your XTR2 component kit by someone with previous assembly experience will require 150-160 hours of work. A standard set of shop tools will be required, and a specific list can be found within the build manual.
Setting aside the acquisition of the Suzuki Hayabusa engine, gearbox, ECU and wiring harness, there are two specific tasks that must be attended to. The Suzuki Hayabusa wiring harness must be modified. This involves removing a number of unused leads, lengthening other leads, and modifying certain connectors to adapt the engine for use in the XTR2. The fuel injector rail return pipe also requires a small modification. Both modifications to the harness and fuel rail can be performed by the Westfield factory at an additional charge, or you may make the necessary modifications yourself.
 What Is The Suzuki Hayabusa?
The Suzuki GSX1300R, also known as the Hayabusa, is a hypersport motorcycle introduced by Suzuki in 1999. It has a 1299 cc inline-4 engine rated 175 bhp, and a 6-speed sequential constant-mesh gearbox. The Suzuki Hayabusa is consistently tested as the fastest production motorcycle in the world.
The Hayabusa engine can be modified with turbochargers, and turbocharged Hayabusas hold many top speed and acceleration records, including the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme 1350cc world record of 252.832 mph (406.894 km/h), the fastest American Motorcyclist Association U.S. record for an open wheel bike.
As compared to a traditional automobile engine, these two power plants have very different driving characteristics in terms of both delivery and handling. By their very nature superbike engines are considerably smaller and lighter than car engines, therefore reducing the overall weight of the car and allowing a high power to weight ratio, which in turn produces rapid acceleration and impressive levels of agility through the corners.
To produce a high specific output from just 1.3-litres, the Hayabusa engine has to rev much higher than a car engine. Maximum power is reached at a heady 9800rpm. Car engines have more torque low down on the rev range making them easier to drive around town and more comfortable when touring. Superbike engine cars deliver their biggest thrills when being driven flat out - when they are fast, frenetic and uncompromising.
For that reason superbike engine cars are more suited to the track than the road. On the track, their sequential gearboxes add another dimension to the performance of the car. Using the superbike gearbox and clutch at slow speeds on the road does take a little getting used to as it's action is not as smooth and easy as that of car engines. Due to their design, the life expectancy of a superbike unit is shorter than that of a car, but they offer huge performance at a low price.

Before you go shopping for a Hayabusa donor bike or engine, be aware that there are three completely different wiring harnesses out for the Hayabusa - all with incompatible components.
- 1999-2000 16 bit ECU, 8 tooth timing pickup
- 2001 different 16 bit ECU, same 8 tooth timing pickup - 2002-2007 32 bit ECU 23-1 timing pickup
To compile the best engine package, it is suggested that you find a 2003 or newer motor. With these 'newer' Hayabusa motors, you will have the hardened shift forks, and better starter setup. Then retrofit the engine package with the 1999-2000 wiring harness, stator motor and ECU. In doing so, you or your engine builder can make the engine rev 600 RPM's more than the stock configuration. The Hayabusa motors pull well past the stock revlimiters.
Note: If you purchase a used Suzuki Hayabusa engine and gearbox, NEVER purchase engines with any physical damage to the engine's metal casings or without any VIN or Identity Numbers. Also, establish if the safety recall has been completed on the Timing Chain Tension Adjuster (this would have been completed under the Suzuki Factory Warranty). If this recall has been done there will be a 'RECALL COMPLETION' label attached under the pillion seat on the left hand side of The 'U' LOCK storage area.

What Other Parts, Materials or Tools Will I Need To Finish My Westfield XTR2 Kit?
As with any other vehicle build, there are a few consumables that will be used during construction - silicone sealant, oil, grease, brake fluid, etc.
Aside from all the normal 'shop tools' such as wrenches, hammers, drills, taps, etc., you will need to have a Pop Rivet Gun, a Brake Pipe Bending Tool and a Rivnut Fixing Kit to complete assembly. You will also need a torque wrench that is suitable up to 250lbs.
What Size Wheels And Tires Can The XTR2 Utilize?
The Westfield factory supplies 7x15 wheels for the front, and 8x15 wheels for the rear of the XTR2 on a PCD (Bolt Pattern) of 4 ¼" and a 2.5" diameter center bore with 195/50-15 Avon tires in front and 205/50-15 Avon tires in the rear. The Westfield factory can also fit 215x50x15 tires all around for maximum performance. Westfield can also supply a magnesium three-piece wheel for the XTR2 that provides a greater weight saving.
What type of Suspension Does the XTR2 Use?
Westfield has engineered and designed the XTR2 to utilize a front and rear double un-equal wishbones independent suspension. Poly bushings are fitted all around for a tight, but reactive suspension response. Aluminum alloy front and rear uprights and hubs are also utilized to give a quick response to the driver.
Purpose-built Nitron racing shocks and springs are an ideal track upgrade for the XTR2. Not only are the Nitrons one of the best shock absorbers in the world, but also they save an immense amount of weight per unit.

What Type and Material of Engine Mounts Are Used For The Hayabusa Engine?
The Westfield XTR2 engine mounts are a cradle type made of mild steel and rubber mounts that connect directly to the engine. Westfield has not identified any vibration issues with this mounting arrangement.
What Is The Fuel Capacity Of The XTR2's Fuel Tank?
The custom manufactured XTR2 aluminum fuel tank holds approximately 42 liters, or 9.3 gallons of fuel.
On the road it should be possible to average 20+ mpg, equating to a range of about 175 miles. Of course on the track it is likely to be somewhat less.
Does The Westfield XTR2 Have A Windshield?
The XTR2 is fitted with a low profile aeroscreen, which aids in both external views, as well as aerodynamics of the car. The XTR2 component kit or rolling chassis does not, however, include a DOT approved windshield, nor is it supplied with windshield wipers.
Is The Westfield XTR2 Available In Either Left-Hand Drive Or Right-Hand Drive?
The Westfield factory can produce the XTR2 in either LHD or RHD depending on your needs. Often times a race track with a clockwise diving pattern is more suited to a right-hand drive car.
What Is The Ground Clearance Of The XTR2?
The suspension of the Westfield XTR2 is adjustable, but from a design standpoint the XTR2 rides very low to the ground. Uneven road surfaces or curbs will pose as more of an issue than with a 'traditional' road-going car. Typical track setup calls for a front ride height from chassis of 65 mm, and a rear ride height from chassis of 90 mm.
What Are The Dimensions Of The XTR2?
Wheel base size: 95" / 2413mm
Front track size: 57" / 1448mm
Rear track size: 56" / 1422mm
Overall length: 145" / 3686mm
Overall width: 64" / 1625mm
Weight race trim from: 903lb / 410kg
Weight road trim from: 970lb / 440kg
It is interesting to note that the 'average' Formula 1 car weighs in at just over 600kg.
What Type Of Bodywork Is The Westfield XTR2 Fitted With?
The XTR2 bodywork is produced in-house at Westfield's own body fabrication facility to ensure a very high level of quality. The XTR2's light weight GRP is left in a base charcoal state ready for your own livery. A rear underbody diffuser is factory standard, while the carbon-fiber rear wing is provided as an optional extra.
Westfield can also supply an ultra-light weight GRP body kit that is suitable for track use only. There is no additional charge for this track weight body.
Are There Any Carbon Fiber Body Panels Available For The XTR2?
At the present time, Westfield is not offering any carbon fiber exterior or interior body panels for the XTR2. While carbon fiber panels would reduce the weight of the XTR2 even further, a driver may find that certain weight minimums for a track car are necessary and any weight savings achieved from carbon fiber pieces would have to be offset with ballast, thus negating any benefit. The lack of carbon fiber panels also significantly reduces the cost and cost of maintenance of the XTR2, which is an underlying goal for the car.
How Are The Body Panels Secured?
Westfield has chosen DZUS quick access fasteners, which provide ease of removal for both the nose and engine cover panels.
Is There Any Interior Trim Or Carpeting?
Since the name of the game is weight reduction, the Westfield XTR2 is supplied without any interior carpeting. Westfield does include a minimal vinyl covered tunnel protector, as well as gaiters for the gear lever and handbrake lever. The dash comes pre-trimmed in your color of choice and the fiberglass shell racing seats can be optionally trimmed in your choice of vinyl colors.
Does The Westfield XTR2 Come With A Roll Bar Or Other Safety Items?
Westfield has designed and integrated a dual roll bar for the XTR2. The fully triangulated tubular space frame chassis also incorporates tubular side impact protection for both the driver and passenger. An FIA electrical master safety switch has also been incorporated into the design of the XTR2, and a fuel pump inertia safety switch can be added to your kit order.
Can The XTR2 Accept Any Other Engines And Gearbox Combinations?
Westfield has designed the XTR2 specifically to utilize the Suzuki Hayabusa superbike engine and gearbox. Westfield did produce a derivative of the XTR2 - the XTR4 - that utilized a turbocharged Audi 4 cylinder engine and transaxle. However, while the XTR4 shared the same outer structure as the XTR2, the underlying chassis was much different. Unfortunately, the XTR4 is no longer produced.
How Does The Sequential 6-Speed Gearbox Work?
With a traditional "H" pattern manual transmission, the driver can move from gear-to-gear by depressing a clutch pedal and moving the shifter to the appropriate position. A sequential gearbox on the other hand, gives the driver the ability to select the gear directly before or after the gear that is currently engaged. This is achieved by pulling a "paddle" or moving a lever. For example, if the gearbox is in 2nd gear, pulling on the "up" paddle or lever would up-shift, selecting 3rd gear. Conversely, using the "down" paddle or lever would cause the transmission to downshift into 1st gear. From the factory, the Westfield XTR2 is fitted with a clutch pedal, as well as a gear lever and gear selector linkage. Some XTR2 owners, however, have fabricated their own steering column-mounted paddle shifters for an almost F1-style driving experience.
The Suzuki Hayabusa 6-speed gearbox provides the following forward speed ratios:
1st 2.769
2nd 2.000
3rd 1.579
4th 1.400
5th 1.250
6th 1.175
How Are The Rear Wheels Driven?
The XTR2 utilizes a Rear Mid-engine, Rear-wheel drive layout. The Hayabusa engine is mounted transversely in the rear of the XTR2 and power is applied through a purpose-built chain drive into a Quaife Torque biasing LSD. From this point, drive shaft assemblies transfer the power to each rear wheel.
 Is There A Reverse Gear?
By default, no motorcycle has a reverse gear. When Westfield designed the XTR2, they also designed a rather clever reverse mechanism. In order to activate the reverse gear, the driver simply puts the XTR2 into neutral, and then pulls on the reverse lever, engaging the reverse motor. The reverse lever is returned to its normal position and the XTR2 is ready to once again move forward.

Can I See Any Detailed Pictures of An XTR2 Under Build?
Absolutely. The following images are of a German, LHD car under construction. They can be seen HERE.

Where Can I Source Replacement Parts?
The entire range of XTR2 chassis parts are available directly from Westfield Sportscars. Additionally, service parts for the Suzuki engine and gearbox can be sourced directly from any Suzuki dealer.
Will I Be Able To Get My Westfield XTR2 Serviced In The Future?
The Westfield XTR2 has been designed around a very stable and popular drivetrain that has been in worldwide production since 1999. The Suzuki engines and gearboxes are relatively straightforward and have a large assortment of after-market parts that have been made available. In addition, any competent motorcycle or auto mechanic can provide appropriate regular maintenance to all other parts.
How Loud Is The Westfield XTR2?
The SVA 'road test' in the U.K. allows for a sound level of not more than 101dB. When fitted with the factory-supplied exhaust and silencer system, the Westfield XTR2 has no trouble meeting this requirement. Due to general wind and engine noise, if you plan to have a passenger ride with you, and in-car communications system is advisable.
Will I Fit Into The XTR2?
While the cockpit is understandably tight, someone that is just over 6 feet tall can fit comfortably. The GRP racing seats may be a bit narrow for larger persons, but a customer can fit his or her own seat as necessary. The standard driving position is already very low, but if a customer finds they need some additional 'headroom', the seat adjusters can be removed and the seats mounted to the chassis plate offering an additional few inches of lowered position.

What Kind Of Seats Are Supplied In The XTR2 Kit?
The XTR2 is supplied with two fiberglass shell racing seats. The racing seats can be optionally trimmed in your choice of vinyl colors, with different base, insert and piping colors. Racing seat dimensions and sample color patterns can be found on the SEATS page.
I Live In Canada, Can I Get A Westfield XTR2?
Canada implements very strict safety regulations for road-going vehicles. For a car to be legal to operate on Canada's roadways, it must comply with the Vehicle Equipment Regulation. A car requires the following equipment: lamps (most of sections 4 to 51), reflectors (sections 40 and 44), brakes (sections 54, 55, 57 and 58), street tires (section 59), horn (section 60), windshield wipers/washer and defroster (section 62), muffler (section 61), mudguards (section 64), windshield must comply with the automotive glazing requirements (sections 68 and 70), rear view mirror(s) (section 72), speedometer and odometer (section 73), bumpers must be on the front and back (section 76), and seatbelts (sections 77 to 80).
For detailed Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations, please find the MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT online here: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/M-10.01/C.R.C.-c.1038/text.html
While the XTR2 is SVA compliant in the U.K. and is thus road-legal, the XTR2 in its present form is not road legal in Canada. As such, even if you could import an XTR2 'starter kit' as defined by Transport Canada, it would be impossible to register for road use without major modifications for both bumper and windshield requirements.
Transport Canada does allow for the importation of competition vehicles (racing vehicles) that will never be driven on the street. From Transport Canada's Pre-Clearance Vehicle Importation documents:
"D. Competition Vehicles
If your vehicle is a "competition vehicle", as defined in the regulations, you must obtain a letter directly from the manufacturer, stating that the vehicle was designed exclusively for competition use, listing the design characteristics of the vehicle that exclude it from normal use, and listing the race sanctioning body it was designed for. If you are not on the pre-clearance system, you may submit the letter to TC prior to shipment, along with photos of the vehicles (or a web site address that has clear photos of the vehicles in question). This same information can be supplied in a Stage 1 application, if the competition vehicles are to be pre-cleared in a shipment along with other vehicles. When TC is satisfied, using the letter and photographs, that the vehicles are in fact "competition vehicles", the vehicles will not need further compliance, such as a bilingual label, since true competition vehicles are not regulated. Stand-alone shipments of competition vehicles are not processed through the pre-clearance program."
How Long Will It Take To Receive My Westfield XTR2 Component Kit?
Once you have reviewed the materials and have placed your order for a Westfield XTR2 kit, it typically takes around six weeks for your components to be manufactured and crated ready for shipment. At this point your kit is picked up by our shipping company at the Westfield factory in the UK, and brought through customs in the United States. Trans-Atlantic shipping can take four to five weeks, followed by four to five days from the port of entry to your door. From start to finish, your Westfield kit order should take ten to twelve weeks.
What About Insurance For The Kit?
There are a number of insurance agents who will be able to provide you with 'specialty' car insurance. Property and liability insurance for customers of Westfield kits is considered non-traditional, or non-standard insurance. In order to assist a customer with his or her purchase, Manik can provide unsolicited examples of insurance companies that specialize in specialty or kit car insurance. Some of these companies include:
- American Hobbyist Insurance
- Classic Automobile Insurance
- Condon & Skelly
- Grundy Worldwide
- Hagerty Insurance
- Leland West
- Motorsports Insurance Services
- Parish Heacock
- Sneed Insurance
- JC Taylor
- Rally Insurance
- Tri-State Collector Car Insurance Program
Most of the specialty or kit car insurance policies stipulate that as a collector's car, a completed Westfield kit can only be driven 2,500 miles in a single year, although some policies are more generous than others. This is where the kit car insurance differs from the general automobile insurance. Insurance companies can also offer the customer a "goods in transit" insurance policy which covers the time from your kit's arrival, through the building process, and finally on the road.
 Is There A Warranty?
While Westfield and Manik cannot warranty how you build your kit, all Westfield kit car components purchased from Westfield Sportscars and fitted to a Westfield come with a 12-month warranty from date of delivery, subject to certain terms and conditions.
What Issues Will I Face With Shipping Of The Kit?
Manik Technologies has made it very easy to acquire a Westfield XTR2. All shipping, freight, brokerage, taxes and duties are already calculated and will be included in the final price of the kit. There will be no hidden fees or surprises when you receive your kit. Made at the Westfield factory near Coventry England, your kit will be shipped to a freight terminal closest to your home or build site. Delivery directly to your home or garage can be arranged on a case-by-case basis at an additional cost. Your kit will arrive in a single, but sizeable, crate. You will need to make arrangements to transport the crate to its final destination in an enclosed truck, or on a trailer. Due to the internal mounting of the bodywork, the crate cannot be placed on its side.
The crated XTR2 kit dimensions are approximately:
* 11ft x 5ft x 4ft. and weighs 1,400 lbs.
Can I Purchase A Fully Built 'Turnkey' Car From Manik?
Not directly. In order for your Westfield XTR2 to qualify as an assembled car for registration purposes, the following three things must happen:
1. Purchase either the Westfield XTR2 in component kit form or as a rolling chassis from Manik with the options you desire.
2. In a separate transaction, you will need to purchase a Hayabusa engine and gearbox from any source you like. Manik will be able to suggest a number of companies and places that have the appropriate running gear if you find difficulties. Alternatively, you can purchase a complete donor motorcycle for the engine, gearbox and other items you will need to complete your build.
3. The final step is to either assemble these components into a car through your own efforts, or to contract with a shop of your choosing to do that assembly for you. There are many shops around the country that will be happy to do that for you. You may therefore have quite a bit to do with the assembly process, or very little depending upon your desires.
If, however, you intend to purchase a Westfield XTR2 strictly for racing and have no intention of registering it for road use, Manik can have your car completely built to your specifications. Please enquire for further details.
Where Can I See Or Drive The Westfield XTR2?
Although Westfield has been producing the XTR2 since 2002, there have not been any Westfield Sportscars sold in North America during that time. As a result, there are only a handful of 'official' XTR2s on this side of the pond. Aside from the odd gray-market import, the XTR2 is still a very rare find. Manik is currently working with several customers and racecar builders to bring the XTR2 to Canada, the United States and Mexico and a track near you. Please contact Manik for current updates.
Is A Build Manual Available For Purchase?
Yes. Manik can supply an XTR2 build manual prior to the purchase of an XTR2 component kit or rolling chassis. The purchase price of the build manual will be refunded off the price of the kit. Please contact Manik for details.
